John Downer Productions posted 2 new videos from the special behind-the-scenes episode of Earthflight which is broadcast tomorrow.

Screening of the David Tennant voiced Tree Fu Tom

The David Tennant voiced Tree Fu Tom will have its premiere public showing at BBC's celebration of CBeebies and CBBC's 10th Birthday on Saturday 18th February in Salford Quays near Manchester.

There are two screenings of Tree Fu Tom, one at 10am and the other at 11.45am. The screenings will be introduced by CBeebies presenter Cerrie Burnell.

Tickets to the event are free and can be booked at this link for the first screening and here for the second one. However tickets are limited to four per application and do not guarantee a seat at the screening. The minimum age is 4 years old.

The address is The Studios, MediaCityUK, Salford Quays and the event is from 10am until 4pm.

David Tennant recording radio play Waiting For The Boatman

The BBC Radio Drama newsletter which was issued today says that David Tennant is recording a new Stephen Wakelam play this week.

It is called Waiting For The Boatman and will be broadcast in the Afternoon Play slot on BBC Radio Four sometime in the first half of 2012 according to Stephen’s website.

The play is about the events surrounding the death of the painter Caravaggio in 1610.

"This week David Tennant and Anton Lesser are in studio recording Stephen Wakelam’s Afternoon Drama, Waiting for the Boatman. We travel to Naples in 1610 with the painter Mario Minniti as our guide. Minniti has recently received a desperate letter from his old mentor Caravaggio, urging him to come to his rescue. The great artist has been attacked and fears for his life. But now, with Minniti in Naples, he is nowhere to be found. As we continue the search, the story of Caravaggio’s fateful final days is revealed. The director is Sasha Yevtushenko."

Increase in figures for episode 5 of David Tennant narrated Earthflight

Episode 5 of the David Tennant narrated Earthflight (about Asia and Australia) received 4.07 million viewers last night on BBC One which was 16.5% of the total viewing audience at that time.

This was an increase of 160,000 on the previous week.

The final figures (and those for BBC HD) will be announced in about 10 days but this compares to the overnight (not final) figures for episodes 1 to 3 of 5.12m (during Christmas week), 4,63m and 4.13m respectively.

At 8pm Earthflight unfortunately was scheduled against Emmerdale and the Coronation Street on ITV1 so it is a tough slot. For example both those programmes received over 7 million viewers.

The final programme in the series will be on Sunday at 4pm on BBC One and is a special episode showing how the series was made.

Release date of David Tennant's movie The Pirates! delayed in the US

Unfortunately the release date of the movie The Pirates! Band of Misfits has been delayed from the original date of 30th March to 27th April.

No reason has been given but it does mean that it will miss the busy Easter weekend when lots of families watch movies.

The Pirates! Band of Misfits is the movie which will be called The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists in the UK (and other countries). The release date for Britain remains 28th March which is the same day it is released in Belgium and France and the French version is released in Switzerland.

The movie is released in Germany on 29th March, Canada on 4th April (French and English versions), Australia and New Zealand on 5th April and Turkey on 20th April. The final release date is 5th October in Venezuela. The full list of release dates worldwide is here.

David Tennant voices Charles Darwin and yesterday Aardman Animations Peter Lord tweeted that he had found a perfect audio sound for that character being hit in the face with a fish!

Tonight at 8pm on BBC and on BBC One HD is the premiere transmission of episode five of Earthflight for which David Tennant does the narration. This episode is titled Asia and Australia.

The programme again lasts 60 minutes and the description is:

"In this bird's-eye view of two continents, demoiselle cranes negotiate a dangerous Himalayan pass on their way to India while high-flying bar-headed geese take the fast track five miles above.

In Rajasthan, vultures watch hunting tigers hoping for a meal and pigeons visit a temple dedicated solely to sacred rats. Pigeons are also our guide to the greatest gatherings of camels on Earth and learn to dodge buzzards around the battlements of Jodhpur Fort. 9,000 cranes overwinter in the most unlikely of spots - a barbed wire compound in the centre of a desert town.

In Australia, rainbow lorikeets drop in on Sydney and patrol Australia's Gold Coast. In the outback, white cockatoos swirl in thousands and budgerigars pass Uluru (Ayers Rock) and gather in the biggest flocks ever recorded.

David Tennant completes recording The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists & Media Day

This morning Peter Lord of Aardman Animations tweeted that yesterday David Tennant had recorded what Peter believes will be the final recording by David for his forthcoming movie animation The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists.

Peter's tweet used the Twitter name of DavidTennantOnTwitter.com and read:

"We recorded the very last syllable (surely!) with the delightful @David_Tennant yesterday - now can't wait to share it with you all. "

Of course Peter had previously tweeted that David had completed his audio recording on 29th June 2011 so yesterday's recording was most likely for additional scenes or extra dialogue.

The movie will be distributed by Columbia Pictures and will be released in March.

Sunday was a media day for The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists as reporters interviewed Peter Lord and visited the Aardman Productions studio in Bristol to see some of the sets used in the making of the animation.

Somebody tweeted that David Tennant had also attended a screening yesterday. This was believed to have been in Leicester Square but the production he watched was not specified.

BBC Three repeating David Tennant's episodes of Doctor Who

Starting this Saturday (28th) BBC Three are repeating David Tennant's episodes of Doctor Who from Series Two (the series which was originally transmitted in 2006).

On Saturday 28th they are showing the first episode New Earth at 7pm and episode two Tooth & Claw at 7.45pm.

However this is not just a regular Saturday transmission as episodes three and four (School Reunion and The Girl In The Fireplace) will be screened at 7pm and 7.45pm the following Friday (3rd February). Then episodes five and six (Rise Of The Cybermen and The Age Of Steel) will be on Saturday 4th February at 7pm and 7.45pm respectively.

Presumably the remaining episodes of Series Two will also be screened on BBC Three but the television listings have not been announced that far in advance yet.

The satellite Channel Watch often repeat David Tennant's episodes of Doctor Who. For example they are repeating Series Two and then Series Three at the moment at 11.40am and 4.40pm each week day. However they have not been broadcast on BBC Three for about a year. BBC Three receives and reaches a much larger audience as it is broadcast on Freeview as well as Sky.

David Tennant narrating Wild About Pandas

David Tennant has narrated the documentary Wild About Pandas which will be broadcast on BBC One Scotland on Wednesday 1st February. This station broadcasts all over the UK on Sky channel 971 and will be available after transmission on iPlayer.

The description of the programme is:

"Documentary exploring the lives of pandas Tian Tian and Yang Guang, and the preparations made for their transfer to Edinburgh Zoo. Vet Simon Girling travels to China to find out how the pair fare in their homeland, while keeper Alison Maclean heads to the Wolong reserve to investigate efforts to introduce more of the animals into the wild."

When the giant pandas Tian Tian and Yang Guang arrived at Edinburgh Airport on 4th December it was covered extensively by the media as it has been years since giant pandas were at any zoo in Britain. This pair have been donated by the Chinese government to Edinburgh Zoo for ten years in the hope that they will mate and produce cubs.

Giant pandas are an endangered species, probably the most famous endangered species. A report produced in 2007 stated that there were 239 pandas living in captivity inside China and another 27 outside the country. The report also estimated that there were less than 1,600 living in the wild.

David Tennant narrates the programme Wild About Pandas which is one hour in length.

Overnight figures for episode 4 of David Tennant narrated Earthflight

The producer of The Decoy Bride, Douglas Rae, explained why they chose to show it at the Glasgow Film Festival as opposed to the Edinburgh festival in an article on Scotsman.com.

Yesterday David Tennant was spotted filming in The British Library in London. Unfortunately none of the people who tweeted that they had seen him mentioned exactly what he was filming but somebody said that they thought it was something to do with Hamlet so it is most likely to have been for his television programme Prefaces To Shakespeare. Michael MacLennan writing on the STV website includes David Tennant's movie The Decoy Bride in his list of Top Ten Movies at the Glasgow Film Festival. This is out of the 239 films which are being shown during the festival.

On 15th January we tweeted that David Tennant has been INVITED (but NOT confirmed) for Filmsomnia on Saturday 8th September and added the warning that "David is probably invited to lots of these events nowadays but most promoters do not post who they have invited until their appearance is confirmed." The Filmsomnia website has now added that David's appearance can not be confirmed until nearer the time due to not knowing what his work commitments will be in September.

On Saturday 7th January David Tennant went to see Billie Piper playing in Reasons To Be Pretty at the Almeida Theatre in London. Although this was a private visit, various people tweeted that he signed autographs for fans there. Episode four of the David Tennant narrated Earthflight premieres on both BBC One and BBC HD tonight at 8pm.

The synopsis of the episode is:

"The documentary series gives a bird's-eye view of South America, as condors soar along the Andes, scarlet macaws explore the heart of the Amazon and hummingbirds and vultures see the continent's greatest sights. It is a journey that includes Machu Picchu, the Nasca Lines and the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Santiago.

In Patagonia, giant petrels shadow killer whales as they hunt seals by stranding their huge bodies on the beach. At Iguassu Falls, dusky swifts dive through the cascades to huddle in communal roosts while hummingbirds bathe below. In a secret Andean location, condors soar in flocks over 40-strong and scavenge on casualties from herds of fighting guanacos.

Elsewhere, a mother condor gently pushes her youngster to the edge of a 200-metre cliff, as flight school begins. Deep in the Amazon, macaws seek medicinal clay. They are joined by a host of secretive jungle animals, including spider monkeys and tapirs, all after the same remedy.

David Tennant's movie The Decoy Bride to be screened at Glasgow Film Festival

Tonight STV announced that David Tennant's movie The Decoy Bride will be one of the movies shown at the Glasgow Film Festival.

This annual festival is being held in 2012 from 16th until 26th February.

ReelScotland then tweeted that The Decoy Bride will be screened on Tuesday 21st at 8.30pm and on Wednesday 22nd at 12.30pm. Both screenings will take place at Glasgow's Cineworld.

Tickets for both screenings go on sale tomorrow.

It is highly unlikely that David Tennant will attend either screening.

Final figures and AI for first 2 episodes of David Tennant narrated Earthflight

The final (also known as consolidated) figures for the first two episodes of the David Tennant narrated Earthflight have been announced.

They were 5.8 million for the first episode about North America and 5.1 million for the second episode about Africa.

The overnight figures were 5.12 million and 4.63 million respectively but the consolidated figures include those people who recorded it and watched it within a week of the broadcast.

Also as impressive were the Appreciation Index figures as they were 90 and 89 which will really have impressed the BBC.

David Tennant's movie The Decoy Bride: Facebook page and trailer

Currently the official Facebook page for David Tennant's forthcoming movie The Decoy Bride has had 779 people say that they "like" it and, of those, there are 765 people "talking about" it so this is a quick look at the history behind those numbers (as things are on the quiet side at the moment!).

During the afternoon of Thursday 5th January a PR company exclusively sent our Twitter account David_Tennant and the account tennant_watch a message to tell us that the official Facebook page had been set up.

The account tennant_watch (which has 1,694 followers) is a bot (i.e. an automated Twitter account) which repeats some tweets from other people that contain David Tennant's name in it. The tweets it repeats tend to be quite random as sometimes it's news items but other times it's just drivel. On this occasion the bot did not repeat the tweet.

As we at DavidTennantOnTwitter.com investigate things before we post them, it was about four hours between the time that the notifying tweet was sent and we actually tweeted it.

Before we tweeted it the Facebook page had only 5 people who had liked it (mainly people from the PR company) but, within one hour of us having tweeted it, that number had increased to 87 people and at the end of that evening it was up to 118 people.

Our Twitter account David_Tennant typically receives between 100 and 200 new followers every day so 779 people is not wildly impressive but this may be because lots of people who are on Twitter are not on Facebook and also those who are on both may not be interested in romantic comedy movies.

(We also posted it to DavidTennantOnTwitter.com too and then lots of other David Tennant websites picked it up from us.)

However we've been told that there is a trailer available for The Decoy Bride which should be posted to the Facebook page soon so that should boost the numbers, especially as the movie is released in the UK on 9th March and starts being shown on US cable television at the beginning of February.

Much Ado About Nothing

Digital Theatre have a 20% off offer this month on the download of David Tennant's production of Much Ado About Nothing when it is purchased with the download of the David Morrissey production of Macbeth from Liverpool. Alternatively, Time Out have extended their 20% off offer for a download of Much Ado About Nothing until 29/2.

Overnight viewing figures for the third episode of David Tennant narrated Earthflight

The overnight viewing figures for the third episode (about Europe) of the David Tennant narrated Earthflight were that it received 4.13million viewers which was 16.5% of the viewing public at that time.

That figure meant that Earthflight was the third most popular programme on BBC One for the day after EastEnders (9.3m) and New Tricks (5.1m).

It was also the fifth most popular show of the day over all the British television stations (after Coronation Street and Emmerdale).

These are very satisfactory figures considering Earthflight is not a long running programme with an established viewing public.

The figure of 4.13million was 500,000 down on the second episode which usually happens as the BBC do not promote programmes so much during their run.

Overnights for the first episode were that it achieved 5.12m viewers which was 20.2% of the viewing public at that time. However the figures for all programmes that week were much higher during to it being between Christmas and New Year.

During the hour the programme was on air #Earthflight trended worldwide on Twitter during the first episode was mainly the second most tweeted item in the UK during episode two but unfortunately did not trend at all during last night's broadcast.

The final (adjusted) figures are announced about 10 days after broadcast.

David Tennant joins the board of The RSC...or does he?

We posted on Monday afternoon about David Tennant being on the panel to appoint the new Artistic Director of The Royal Shakespeare Company but an item in Baz Bamigboye's column today in the Daily Mail (reproduced above) says that he has recently joned the board of the RSC too.

However, the RSC website currently does not list him on the board.

In the past Baz Bamigboye has been a great source of information about the theatre and has often posted news before other sources have received it so it is quite possible that David's appointment to the RSC board has just not been updated to the RSC website yet.

Or possibly the RSC will be issuing a press release at a later date about their coup of having David Tennant joining their board.

Currently there is only one actor on the board. That is Noma Dumezweni who is also on the panel to decide Michael Boyd's successor as Artiststic Director. The other "15 non-salaried people, chosen for their skills and experience", as the RSC website describe the board, are mainly well-connected corporate people (e.g. accountants and chief executives) who have an interest in the arts.

The RSC website further explains that the board of the RSC "work closely with the RSC senior management team in leading and steering the company. Board members are drawn from a wider group of Governors. Governors act as advocates on our behalf and come from a wide range of backgrounds. They meet at least once a year at the Company's AGM, chaired by the President. The Prince of Wales is our President and Her Majesty the Queen is our Patron."

David Tennant comes sixth in Hello Magazine Most Attractive Man poll

The Hello Magazine poll for Most Attractive Man 2011 expectedly closed yesterday and, although the magazine has not officially announced the result yet, it is almost 100% certain that House actor Hugh Laurie won and David Tennant will have come sixth.

Although it is called the Most Attractive Man Award it is more accurately Most Popular Man as the poll inevitably becomes a popularity contest as fans vote for their favourite star.

There is no physical award given to the winner and it is unlikely that stars such as Hugh Laurie or David Tennant even know (far less care) that such a competition is taking place.

Ultimately the real winners are Hello Magazine as it massively increases the number of hits on their website which they can then translate into charging higher prices to advertise on their website.

In previous years the final was open during the whole of January of the following year but in 2010 and again in this poll Hello opened the voting during December of the year which fans were not expecting.

In another unexpected twist Hello then announced at the beginning of January 2012 that voting would be allowed for another 16 days (more advertising revenue!) but suddenly last night it was closed, again with no explanation! Possibly it may open again.

This did not give me a chance to make a note of the results as I had planned but, unless Hello intervene because they believe cheating was going on (unlikely) it seems obvious that David Tennant will have come sixth. If the poll had ended on 31st December then he would have been placed fifth but fans of Keanu Reeves (who was in last place at the end of December) overtook him this week.

The votes generally this year are much lower. At the beginning of January about 205,000 votes had been placed in total which is a large drop on the 2008 poll when 395,000 votes were cast. (That year David Tennant came second by just one percent to Robert Pattinson who did not even make the final this year.)

David Tennant has been in this poll for four or five years now so understandably lots of fans have grown tired of voting. Officially people can only vote once every 10 minutes but, by clearing cookies and using different browsers, there are ways around this. A few years ago some fans would post online that they had spent two or three solid hours most evenings just voting! There are also always accusations of fans of different people using bots in order to do well in the poll.

As one person posted last year when Hugh Laurie stormed into the lead, "Hugh's fans may vote more but David Tennant's fans have more interesting lives!"

That said, Hello Magazine have already started their vote for Most Attractive Man 2012 so expect David to feature in it again at some point.

The first two episodes looked at birds over America and Africa and this week it is Europe.

Using state of the art camera techniques including cameras being flown beside the birds in flight, Earthflight took two years to make by John Downer Productions who also produced Polar Bear: Spy On The Ice which was also narrated by David Tennant.

The description for tonight's episode is:

"Earthflight departs on its grand European tour, using a host of techniques including taking extraordinary footage from microlites as they fly alongside imprinted birds.

Among other wonders, cameras soar with cranes and geese over Venice, the white cliffs of Dover and Edinburgh. White storks leave Africa and struggle to reach Istanbul, the gateway to Europe, while cranes take an easier route over the monkey-guarded Rock of Gibraltar.

In France, the white horses of the Camargue make a splash around the new arrivals. In Rome the heat of the city lures 20 million starlings that perform nature's greatest aerial display to outwit peregrines. In Hungary, sand martins grab mayflies from the air; and at Bass Rock, gannets create Britain's greatest natural spectacle as they dive in exquisite slow-motion.

David Tennant nominated for Best Actor in an Audio Drama Award at BBC Audio Drama Awards

David Tennant has been nominated for the Best Actor in an Audio Drama Award at the first ever BBC Audio Drama Awards.

David was nominated for Kafka: The Musical by Murray Gold.

The other nominees are Damian Lewis for Giovanni’s Room and Rory Kinnear for Flare Path, plus there is a Special Commendation of Tom Riley for Henry’s Demons.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on Sunday 29th January 2012 in the Radio Theatre at BBC Broadcasting House, London which David Tennant will be presenting.

The BBC Audio Drama Awards cover audio dramas first broadcast in English in the UK between 1st October 2010 and 30th September 2011 or those which were first uploaded or published for free listening online in the UK during the same period. Entries were welcome from all makers of audio drama, and were not restricted to BBC broadcasts.

David Tennant on panel to decide new Artistic Director of The RSC

The Royal Shakespeare Company announced today at their press conference that David Tennant would be one of the people to sit on the panel to decide the successor to Michael Boyd as the Artistic Director of the company.

The deadline for applications for the position ends today and the appointment will be announced in March. The panel will interview candidates in February.

Other members of the panel will be RSC actor Noma Dumezweni, former National Theatre artistic director Richard Eyre and former RSC, National Theatre and Royal Opera House executive Genista McIntosh. Michael Boyd described the panel as "seriously wise group of people."

Viewing figures for episode 2 of the David Tennant narrated Earthflight

The overnight viewing figures for the second episode (Africa) of the David Tennant narrated Earthflight were that it received 4.63million viewers which was 17.8% of the viewing public at that time.

That figure meant that Earthflight was the fifth most popular show of the day over all the British television stations.

It was also the third most popular programme on BBC One for the day after EastEnders (9.65m) and Celebrity Mastermind (5.1m).

Last week websites such as DigitalSpy reported that Earthflight helped BBC One win that evening's ratings as it achieved 5.12m viewers which was 20.2% of the viewing public at that time. With these figures it appears that Earthflight continued tht this week too.

Last night, during the hour the programme was on air, #Earthflight was trending again in the UK on Twitter. For a lot of the time it was the second most tweeted item.

RUMOUR about a new project for David Tennant

Last night at about 11.45pm kandy posted onto the forum attached to the Doctor Who website GallifreyBase.com that someone had tweeted "Happy to report that actor David Tennant (Doctor Who) is joining Heather Graham and Timothy Hutton on "Emotional R...""

The original tweet was removed within 10 minutes but the person who tweeted it is a person who works in PR and is based in California.

Thanks to some great investigation work by fans in the DTAT thread on GallifreyBase, it appears that the movie is called Emotional Rescue and a website has already been set up at EmotionalRescueTheMovie.com.

David Tennant's bio on that website is quite out of date and they use an old photo of him as The Doctor (as opposed to one of the photos his management company usually submit for press releases). However it states that it will film in Winter 2012 and will be made by FreyjaFilms and The Filmmill in conjunction with Belladonna Productions.

The movie will be written and directed by Beth Lauren who will also produce it with Sarah Miller.

The rest of the cast will be Heather Graham, Timothy Hutton, Alysia Reiner, David Alan Basche and Angie Cepeda.

There is a very detailed synopsis of the film on the website here but beware that it contains SPOILERS. There is no mention of which character David might play.

No official announcement has been made about whether David has actually committed to film this movie or whether he is only attached to it (which is what happens when film companies are trying to get funding for a movie) but the fact that he is listed on the website is a positive sign.

Repeats of 2 David Tennant series start on TV this week

This week sees the start of a run of repeats of two television series which David Tennant narrated.

On Wednesday evenings at both 10pm and 2am BBC Four are repeating the first series of Twenty Twelve. This 6 part spoof documentary looks at the problems experienced by the team responsible for the London Olympics.

This programme first aired in March 2011 on BBC Four and was repeated on BBC Two in July.

David Tennant has already recorded the voiceover for series two of Twenty Twelve and it is expected that the second series will air at the end of these repeats of series one.

The other series starting a repeat run this week is The T.A. And The Taliban. It will be repeated on Watch at 8pm and 1am each Thursday evening. It will also be repeated an hour later on Watch + 1.

This programme was originally shown on Watch in August 2011 follows part-time Territorial Army members serving in Afghanistan showing how it impacts their families and their lives.

With many thanks to @bklyn19ny apparently there is currently an advertisement for Fright Night showing in Times Square in New York City which includes the massive billboard photo of David Tennant bare-chested pasted below!

Apparently the ad is about 15 seconds long and should receive a lot of attention as thousands of people will be gathering there on New Year's Eve.

Fright Night was released on DVD in the US a couple of weeks ago and, according to one chart, was placed second in the rentals chart during the first week of its release.

Reviews of the first episode of the David Tennant narrated Earthflight

Several of the newspapers today have reviews of the first episode of the David Tennant narrated Earthflight which premiered yesterday on BBC One at 8pm. (It is also repeated on BBC HD on Tuesday 10th January at 7pm and is available for 7 days on the iPlayer at this link.)

The Telegraph wrote "Earthflight is a five-part voyage of discovery, narrated by actor David Tennant, that captures some of the world’s most extraordinary natural wonders through the eyes of birds. It is, to put it simply, breathtaking." They also added "The energetic musical score added the finishing touches."

The Metro had the headline "Earthflight was a breathtaking journey that reached dizzying heights" with the sub heading "Earthflight wasn't quite Frozen Planet and David Tennant isn't quite David Attenborough, but this was a nature programme well worth watching anyway."

But, in contrast to The Telegraph about the soundtrack, the Metro wrote "The music felt like it would have been better suited to Tomorrow's World and Tennant never achieved the gravitas of Attenborough."

However the Metro also wrote "The sheer physics of natural flight really is worth tuning in for. This was a cathartic, rewarding watch."

The Guardian's opinion was " The results are extraordinary, stunning, breathtaking." About David they wrote "David Tennant, narrating, strings it all together, sometimes slightly irritatingly. A young goose, resting, is a "sitting duck" to an eagle. For birds taking to the air by a Holiday Inn, "it's time to check out". Ouch. Not David's fault, he's just reading it. But I'm not sure the pun has a place in wildlife narration."

#Earthflight trended on Twitter worldwide for most of the programme and apparently was the top trending topic in the UK at one point.

There were also a lot of tweets about David Tennant's narration. Most of it was positive with several comparing him favourably to David Attenborough who is synonymous with nature programmes in Britain. However David's narration and the script did receive some negative comments on Twitter too.

Episode Two has its premiere screening next Thursday and the DVD of the series will be available on 5th March.

Today at 8pm on BBC One is the premiere screening of episode one of the David Tennant narrated nature documentary Earthflight.

There are five episodes (each looking at birds over a different continent) using state of the art camera techniques including cameras being flown beside the birds in flight. This video shows how some of the sequences were filmed.

Earthflight took two years to make by John Downer Productions who also produced Polar Bear: Spy On The Ice. That programme was also narrated by David Tennant and incidentally will be repeated in January on the satellite channel Eden.

Episode one of Earthflight looks at America and starts in the Gulf Of Mexico. It follows some of the five million snow geese as they embark on a journey that takes them the entire length of North America to their breeding grounds in the Arctic.

Today the Radio Times, The Telegraph and The Mirror have articles today about the first episode. Preview clips are available online here and here.

Episode One is repeated on BBC HD on Tuesday 10th January at 7pm.

Today at 11.30am David Tennant narrated The Pied Piper Of Hamelin on BBC Radio Four.

This 30 minute programme was about Robert Browning's poem The Pied Piper Of Hamelin and featured Bertie Gilbert as The Boy.

Music and songs were written and performed for this production by John Harle, with lyrics by Joyce Harle. They were sung by Thomas Platts who is the head chorister at Canterbury Cathedral and was accompanied by the choir of Wingham School Kent.

The Pied Piper Of Hamelin is the subject of a legend concerning the departure of a great many children from the town of Hamelin, Lower Saxony, Germany, in the Middle Ages. The earliest references describe a piper, dressed in pied (multicoloured) clothing, leading the children away from the town never to return. In the 16th century the story was expanded into a full story - that of the poem, in which the piper is a rat-catcher hired by the town to lure rats away with his magic pipe. When the citizens refuse to pay for this service, the piper retaliates, turning his magic on the children, leading them away to the mountains. Only one boy remains behind .....

(Fans of David Tennant who saw him in The Pillowman will remember that one of the tales in that play is based around The Pied Piper Of Hamelin.)

Satellite station Watch having a David Tennant weekend

The UK satellite station Watch are having a David Tennant weekend during the weekend of Saturday 31st December 2011 and Sunday 1st January 2012!

Starting at 7.30am on the Saturday they are showing the first eleven episodes of Series Four of Doctor Who starting with Partners In Crime and ending with Turn Left from 5.30pm until 6.30pm. Each episode starts on the half hour

On Sunday 1st January 2012 the station starts at 6.30am by repeating episode 7 (The Unicorn And The Wasp) and then shows the remainder of Series Four which ends with Journey's End from 12.10pm until 1.30pm.

Watch then screens David's four 2009 Specials - Planet Of The Dead, The Waters Of Mars , The End Of Time Part One and The End Of Time Part Two which starts at 5.35pm.

All these episodes are also repeated an hour later on Watch + 1.

David Tennant costumes at Bonhams Doctor Who auction yesterday

David Tennant's school master's costume (a three piece suit, cape, mortar board white shirt, bow tie and boots) from the Doctor Who episodes Human Nature and Family Of Blood sold at the Bonhams auction yesterday for £2,125. (The guide price was only £1,000 to £1,500.)

His suit from the two episodes sold for £938.

David's costume of the cream and blue striped pyjamas, slippers and brown checked dressing gown sold for £1,125.

His final lot was the overcoat, hat and scarf he wore when throwing the cricket ball, plus the red pyjamas for the scene where John Smith was old, which sold for £1,250.

David Tennant filmed in Stratford-Upon-Avon this week

Apparently David Tennant filmed in Stratford-Upon-Avon on Monday (12th December).

Although David had filmed for several weeks in the area recently for his forthcoming movie Nativity 2: The Second Coming, it seems likely that this filming was for his documentary called Prefaces To Shakespeare which is part of the BBC Shakespeare season that will be transmitted during 2012. The series will reveal the characters within and uncover the stories behind some of Shakespeare’s greatest plays.

DavidTennantOnTwitter.com was told by someone on Twitter (name withheld to preserve anonymity) that part of the filming involved David watching a Latin lesson in one of the schools in Stratford-Upon-Avon. (Shakespeare's actual schoolroom is still used as part of a school nowadays.)

Apparently one of the boys in the class corrected David's Latin pronunciation!

The cameras were also filming the boys playing football at the school on Tuesday.

David Tennant co-starred with Catherine Tate in Much Ado About Nothing from 16th May until 3rd September 2010 at the Wyndham Theatre in London.

This production was filmed over the four nights from Monday 29th August until Thursday 1st September inclusive. Unfortunately, due to a problem with his voice, David did not play the first two performances plus different actors played the role of Boy, so the editing task for this filming will have been changeling!

It was confirmed today that David Tennant has provided the voice-over for the second series of Twenty Twelve which will be broadcast in 2012.

DavidTennantOnTwitter.com was given the information today by somebody involved with the production which is the news that lots of David's fans were waiting to hear as his dead-pan delivery was perfect for the mockumentary.

David Tennant recorded the voice-over for the first series (which aired earlier this year) via the telephone while he was filming the movie Fright Night in the US.

The BBC comedy Twenty Twelve is a spoof documentary which looks at the work of the ficticous British Olympics Deliverance Team leading up to the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Today a Press Release said that David Tennant's drama Single Father will get its North American premier in January on TVO in Canada.

This four part drama was made by Red Productions between March and May 2010 and was shown in the UK during October 2010. It has also been released on a DVD in the UK.

The North American showing will be on and will air on four consecutive Sundays from 8th to 29th January 2012 at 10pm ET. However these are billed as 50 minute slots whereas the UK transmission were each one hour in length.

The drama is described as: "David Tennant stars in this touching and humorous four-part drama about a man struggling to raise his four children after the death of his partner. When Rita dies suddenly, Dave faces the daunting prospect of bringing up their children on his own, as well as coping with his own and his children's grief.

Things get even more complicated when Dave begins to fall in love with Rita's best friend. Is Dave betraying Rita by falling in love again so quickly, or will he be walking away from happiness if he ignores his feelings? Although currently Amazon are still listing the DVD, fans are reporting receiving an email today to say that the DVD of David Tennant's production of Much Ado About Nothing is not happening at the moment.

The email states:

David Tennant attends Absolute Radio Beer and Cake Club

Tonight David Tennant was the surprise guest at the Absolute Radio Beer and Cake Club from the Leciester Square Theatre in London.

The event was hosted by Christian O'Connell and was part of Crohn's Disease Awareness Week.

Carol Decker (T'Pau) provided the music and Richard White (MrChard on Twitter) caught a short video of David dancing to her singing Back For Good here.

Richard White also posted photos of David Tennant at this event here, here and here, plus one of him watching Carol Decker performing here. There is also one of him which is not suitable for work here!

Absolute Radio's traffic reporter Maggie Doyle posted the photo above and the following day Christian O'Connell said on his breakfast show that David had only decided to attend at 2pm "when they could get a babysitter." He also claimed that David was "tipsy" after two beers but it is a running joke with him about David getting drunk.

Tonight David Tennant co-hosts the Children In Need concert from the Manchester Evening News Arena. The other co-hosts are the DJs Chris Moyles and Fearne Cotton.

The Children in Need Rocks Manchester concert has been organised by Take That’s Gary Barlow and features a long list of artists including Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, JLS, Elbow, N Dubz, Hugh Laurie, Snow Patrol and Michael Buble. As well as playing their hits there will be a number of special collaborations between different artists.

The concert starts at 7pm (with doors opening at 5.30pm) and part of the concert is being broadcast on both BBC One and BBC HD between 8pm and 10pm tonight with highlights being shown late tomorrow evening during the Children In Need night on BBC One.

This afternoon at 2pm BBC Radio Five Live will be backstage as David Tennant, among others, rehearses for the Children In Need concert.

It was an easy question (on 3rd January 2009 David Tennant returned to the stage after an operation in which play at the Novello Theatre in London?) which most people correctly answered as Hamlet.

We had a massive response to the quiz with almost 1,000 replies (978 to be exact) but there can only be three winners which were drawn out of a theoretical hat last night.

RUMOURS that David Tennant MAY be at Radio One Teen Awards on Sunday

There are currently RUMOURS that David Tennant MAY be at the Radio One Teen Awards ceremony this coming Sunday (9th).

The Radio One Teen Awards is at Wembley Arena and tickets are all sold out. They were restricted to 14 to 17 year olds only.

The rumours started circulating yesterday on Twitter but it’s hard to track down where the rumour started. There has been no official announcement and David is not mentioned on the Teen Awards website.

Another star who was mentioned in the same tweets as David’s name is Alan Carr who is currently on tour and plays shows in Aberdeen the previous night and Glasgow the following evening. Although that does not rule out Alan’s appearance at the award ceremony, it does cast some doubt on it, especially as Alan’s official website does not list the appearance.

It is possible that both David Tennant and Alan Carr are listed on the guest list but may not actually make an appearance.

The award categories are Best British Single, Young Sporting Hero, Album, TV Show and Music Act. The official Teen Awards website states that Nick Grimshaw and Mollie from The Saturdays will be hosting and that Radio One DJs will also be there.

The ceremony will also be broadcast live on BBC Radio One from 1pm until 5pm. This can be listened to online worldwide.

Artists performing at the award ceremony include One Direction, Pixie Lott and Ed Sheeran.

There are four new David Tennant related CDs issued today.

David has recorded all the audio books of the How To Train Your Dragon series about Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III that have been released to date and today the next two (A Hero’s Guide To Deadly Dragons and How To Break A Dragon’s Heart) are released.

The How To Train Your Dragon series of books are written by Cressida Cowell who will be appearing at the Cheltenham Literary Festival on Sunday 9th October to talk about the series.

Also released today are two CDs of the compilation of Hans Christian Andersen Fairy Tales which were available to download from the BBC Learning website during May and June.

David Tennant reads the The Brave Tin Soldier on the first CD which is called The Brave Tin Soldier And Other Fairy Tales and he reads The Fir Tree on the other CD which is called The Emperor’s New Clothes And Other Fairy Tales.

As some Twitter accounts declared that David Tennant filmed in Coventry yesterday, you may remember that we took a more cautionery stance on the reports which were being posted online.

It now appears that yesterday David Tennant only visited a school "as a favour to the director" and that no filming actually took place at that time.

Also someone reliable on the DTAT thread posted that recalls for at least some of the child actors in the movie are being held this week.

Once again, trying to piece together all the things that have been posted and allowing for Chinese Whispers Syndrome, it seems that it is likely that David's reported comment about filming in Coventry next week may be accurate.

David Tennant and Nativity 2 movie

It is not confirmed but there have been sightings reported on Twitter today of David Tennant in Coventry, probably filming the movie Nativity 2.

Fans had reported online hearing actor Ian McNeice say at the Entertainment Media Show last weekend that he would be appearing in the comedy with David Tennant. (Fans of Doctor Who mainly know Ian McNeice from playing Winston Churchill in the last two series.) Another rumour on the internet is that, despite being genetically very dissimilar, David will play Ian’s son in the movie.

This has not been confirmed (although often an official announcement is frequently only issued when filming commences). However the latest issue of the Doctor Who Magazine mentioned that David was attached to the project and on 22nd August we reported that some people had auditioned for the movie and mentioned David was attached to it.

If the rumours are true it is expected that filming will happen in Coventry on the West Midlands for 6 - 7 weeks. Yet another rumour is that David is reported to have told a fan on Sunday that he will be filming on the town next week but possibly he meant this week and it was incorrectly repeated.

The original Nativity movie was released in late 2009 and starred Martin Freeman, Ashley Jensen, Marc Wotton, Ricky Tomlinson and Alan Carr. That story was that Coventry was turned into Tinseltown as the residents believed that producers from Hollywood would judge the best Nativity play from rival schools.

It is expected that Nativity 2 will be released for Christmas 2012.

David Tennant attends Entertainment Media Show today

Today David Tennant attends the Entertainment Media Show at Earls Court in London.

The Entertainment Media Show is a massive annual event which gives fans a chance to meet their idols from television and film. This will be David's first paid appearance at one of these events (although he did attend ComicCon in the US in 2009 to promote Doctor Who).

David Tennant will be posing for photos with fans and signing autographs.

Originally the organisers stated that there would be 400 slots for fans to have an individual photo with David but that has been increased to about 1,000 fans who have each paid £35. David will be doing these photos in two hour long slots from 11.10am and 1.10pm. All the slots are now sold out.

David will also be signing autographs for fans at a cost of £45. For that you can get up to five autographs and these can be purchased at the event.

David Tennant records audio for BBC documentary

At about 9am today Laurence Clark tweeted that David Tennant would be recording the audio for a documentary today in London about Laurence's life.

Laurence Clark (whose website is here) describes himself as a "stand-up comic, writer, actor and disability rights activist."

The documentary was for the BBC and is expected to air in February 2012.

Afterwards Laurence posted some photos of both him and his 6 year old son with David Tennant at the recording. Click here to see them.

In the early evening people reported seeing David Tennant and Billie Piper filming more scenes for Love Life in Margate. (It is likely that David's audio recording in the morning would have only taken a couple of hours at the most.)

David Tennant nominated for RTS North West Award

David Tennant has been nominated for a RTS North West Award in the category Best Performance In A Single Drama for his role in Single Father.

However David is in a stiff category as he is up against Christopher Eccleston for Accused, John Simm for Exile and Suranne Jones for Scott and Bailey. Ironically they are all actors who have starred in Doctor Who too!

The website MENMedia, who announced the awards, described this category as too close to call.

David Tennant's nomination is for RTS North West and not the main Royal Television Society Awards which are given out in the spring. However it is still a significant nomination. These regional awards are similar to BAFTA in that, as well as the main BAFTA awards there are also awards given by various regions (e.g. BAFTA Scotland and BAFTA Wales) which focus on productions made in their areas.

Single Father was shown on BBC One for four consecutive weeks starting on Sunday 10th October 2010.

According to two articles posted today, David Tennant is the most popular actor to play the character The Doctor in the history of the 48 year old programme Doctor Who.

In the first article David Tennant "comfortably" won the Doctor Who Greatest Doctor Of All Time poll which was recently run by Gigwise after 105,000 people voted.

This is dispite the commonly held belief that the incumbent actor usually wins these types of polls. (In fact, when David was told that he had won various popularity polls when he was still The Doctor, this is something he would modestly say himself!)

Also today, the Radio Times reported that the Doctor Who average viewers for each episode during their tenure is 7.95m for Christopher Eccleston, 8.33m for David Tennant and 7.66m for Matt Smith. (This does not take into account iPlayer as the BBC does not publish those figures.)

David Tennant filming Love Life in Margate Kent today

David Tennant started filming some of his scenes for the Dominic Savage drama Love Life in Margate today. This five part drama will be broadcast on the BBC in early 2012 and David appears in the first episode.

David's co-star in his episode is the actress Lacey Turner who is most famous for playing Stacey Slater in EastEnders.

People tweeted on Sunday that they had spotted David in the town on the south east coast of England where the drama is set.

The first indication of public filming was when the Theatre Royal tweeted that David was filming outside the theatre and he was subsequently photographed by photographers and fans in a park in the area.

The Thanet Gazette posted two photos of David Tennant and Lacey Turner filming Love Life in Margate today. (One of the photos is posted above.)

David Tennant to co-host Children In Need concert

David Tennant will co-host a concert at MEN Arena, Manchester on Thursday 17th November for Children In Need.

The concert will include such artists as Lady Gaga, Elbow and Coldplay. It will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC Radio One too.

The Children In Need concert is being organised by Take That member Gary Barlow and will also feature Michael Buble, JLS, N-Dubz and Hugh Laurie.

David Tennant, Fearne Cotton and Chris Moyles will host the November 17 concert which will be called Children In Need Rocks Manchester.

Further names and even some surprise guests will to be added to the bill. This concert ties in with the BBC's annual fundraising spectacular.

For the past two years the concert has been staged at London's Royal Albert Hall and the move to the north-west of England ties in with the relocation of several BBC departments to Salford.

Take That member Gary said: "I'm so thrilled that these incredible artists are giving their time for such a special charity that is very close to my heart. There are still some great acts we're keeping up our sleeve to announce in the coming weeks and who knows, I might even sing a little something on the night too."

Tonight David Tennant won the Best Actor Award at the TV Choice Awards at The Savoy Hotel in London.

These awards were voted by fans over a number of months and David Tennant beat Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Morgan,and Matt Smith in the final round for the prestigious award.

After a sit down meal and a raffle for a charity the award ceremony started at about 10pm.

However The Mirror and several other newspapers were apparently given a press release with the winners which was embargoed only until 10pm which meant that fans knew the list of winners before those at the actual awards!

David Tennant won his award for his drama Single Father. The drama was nominated for the New Drama Award but unfortunately lost to Sherlock.

David Tennant will be attending The Entertainment Media Show (CollectorMania) at Earls Court on Sunday 2nd October.

The hall is situated opposite West Brompton train station and is a short walk from Earls Court Tube station.

This is an event organised by ShowMasters where fans pay to have their photo taken with various actors and / or get their autograph.

David Tennant will be appearing on Sunday 2nd October only.

Tickets to enter the event are either £6 per day or £12 for the Early Bird entry. Once in the venue fans can collect a Virtual Ticket for a David Tennant autograph but this is only if he has the available time.

David will be posing for photos with fans during the day. As there are 400 slots available please do not expect to spend much time talking to David as the photos will be taken at a fast pace. David Tennant's photos are the most expensive at £35 with Diana Rigg charging £30. Other examples are John Hurt (£20), Alex Kingston (£15) and Arthur Darvill (£15).

The photo shoot is explained as:

1) Your photo will be taken by a professional photographer.
2) The shot will be taken in front of a backdrop and with lighting to ensure the best possible image.
3) You will be standing beside the guest, and not leaning over a table.
4) Your picture will be a 6” by 9” colour photo (not an inkjet print) and, all being equal, should be ready for collection 2 to 3 hours after the END of the shoot.
5) You can have two people in the picture, but you will need a ticket for each person in the photo. Two photos will then be taken, and one copy of each will be developed.

David will also be signing autographs for some fans. If you are unable to attend you can purchase his autograph online and it will be mailed to you after the event.

David Tennant's autographs are also the most expensive at £45 with Diana Rigg charging £35. Other examples are John Hurt (£20), Alex Kingston (£15) and Arthur Darvill (£15).

During any available time that he has David will then sign autographs for Virtual Ticket Holders. It is most unlikely that David will be able to personalise any autograph due to the time constraints. As not everybody will be able to get an autograph, this explains why the Early Bird Entrance Fee is double the price of the normal entrance fee. The doors to the event are expected to open at 7am.

The Guardian today announced that David Tennant’s latest movie Fright Night was placed 7th in the box office cart for the first weekend of its release in Britain.

It took £680,000 (from 411 cinemas) and was placed highest among all those movies which were released that day.

It is one place ahead of Apollo 18 which was heavily advertised in the London area.

As we have previously reported, it has already taken $16.9m in America (it was released there on 26th August) and is estimated to have cost about $18m to make so has almost recouped the cost.

Today filming on the new BBC drama Love Life is reported to be starting.

David Tennant's episode is scheduled to be the first one to be transmitted in early 2012 but it is not currently known whether or not David's episode will be the first to be filmed. With different actors in each episode the production company will have to fit around all the actors' schedules.

This five part drama series will be set in Margate on the Kent coast and is written by Dominic Savage but a lot of the dialogue will be improvised by the actors.

Fun and tricks for David Tennant's final 2 performances of Much Ado About Nothing

Yesterday David Tennant and the cast of Much Ado About Nothing played their final two performances at the Wyndham Theatre in London. These were the 111th and 112th performances (David’s 109th and 111th). The character of Boy was played n the afternoon by Bailey Pepper (who I personally always thought played the character the best) and in the evening performance by Eugene Lewis. Mario Marin-Borquez played the part on the Friday evening.

That morning the queue for the £10 lottery tickets was over 200 in number and stretched down the road and around the corner. After the seats for each performance had been awarded, the returns queue was also quite long but there were quite a few returns for both performances so several of David’s fans posted that they had managed to obtain one.

David arrived at the theatre at about 12.45pm, entering through the front door unhindered (and mainly unnoticed) and Catherine arrived at the much later time of 2.05pm again through the front door but among lots of audience members who were also arriving at that time.

By 12.30pm (five hours before the end of the matinee) the front row of the barrier around the stage door was already full and by 4.30pm it was four deep which meant that anybody who watched either performance stood virtually no chance of getting an autograph or a decent photo of David or Catherine.

Often in long productions during the final matinee the cast play tricks on each other and yesterday was no exception. The longest running joke was that Hannah Warren-Green, who played Maria, carried a pot plant (something like a spider plant) on stage with her almost all the time! It started in the first scene when usually she would walk across the stage carrying some towels but in this performance she carried the pot plant. She also had it when she sang Hey Nonie Nonie on stage and even when she played the stripper it was on the table beside her. Although it wasn’t visible during the wedding or funeral scenes, she carried it when she called Innogen away and again when she told Benedick and Beatrice about Hero being exonerated. (That later appearance caused one lady in the front row to have a loud attack of the giggles!)

During the production in the final scene David always gently slapped the face of Tom Bateman who played Claudio but at times it sounded harder than at the beginning of the run which usually got a laugh. Yesterday, during the first scene, as David was reversing the golf buggy, he got out of the vehicle and walked over to Claudio to say his “Examine your conscience” line and slapped both sides of his face together (in an Eric Morecombe type of way) before driving off. As Claudio and Don Pedro (played by Adam James) left the stage for that scene, Adam jumped on Tom’s back for a piggyback.

At the beginning of that scene Angelo (played by Derek Howard) would usually eye up Maria (which ties in with the party scene when he danced with her) but yesterday he attempted to kiss her.

In the scene where Benedick tells Claudio that Don Pedro has been wooing Hero, David entered from stage left whereas during all the other performances he's entered from stage right.

Yesterday David’s gulling scene went on for slightly longer than usual at both performances as some of the audience joined in (which they have done during other recent performances) so he played on that and in Catherine’s gulling scene in the matinee somebody replied “No” when she asked the rhetorical question of whether it could be true so she forgot where she was and had to start the speech again.

Tom’s character was slightly assaulted during each performance of the run because, as well as the slap, he would have a glass of water thrown at him, be covered in baby oil and Don Pedro would pour whisky over his face. However yesterday they guys went overboard with the baby oil so that, as well as over his chest, it was all over his face and in his ears!

In the final scene when Beatrice was given a copy of the sonnet written by Benedick, those of us at the front could see that the piece of paper had a large penis drawn on it!

Later in that scene when David slapped Tom he again did the double handed slap.

For the evening performance it was obvious that a lot of the audience had seen the production previously so there was a great atmosphere in the theatre.

The performance itself was tamer than the matinee but in the first scene, David again got out of the buggy to walk over to Claudio and double slap him but when he drove the golf buggy off the stage there was the distinct sound of it hitting something off-stage! The audience, Tom and Adam all roared with laughter and clapped and David came back to the door and put up his thumb to show that he was okay!

In the final scene David gave Tom another double handed slap and Tom gently gave David one back too!

When Beatrice and Benedick kissed at the end, a lot of the audience clapped so the kiss went on for well over a minute accompanied by lots of laughter by the cast!

In both performances as David said his “Get thee a wife” line to Don Pedro, Adam started laughing when he looked at David!

At the end of the performance, the whole audience leapt to their feet to give all the cast a standing ovation! At other performances most people would only stand when David and Catherine came out for their bow but tonight the whole cast was shown great appreciation with masses of cheering too.

The cast did their usual three curtain calls (as usual the music ran out by the end of the second curtain call) but when they came out for the third call, the stage manager and an assistant gave all the cast some flowers. The cast all received one but David and Catherine were given a big bunch. Catherine kissed the gentleman and David gave him a big hug.

During the curtain call David looked all around the theatre constantly, with a massive big smile on his face and he couldn’t resist taking a final look back at the audience as he left the stage for the final time.

After seeing the absolute joy on his face after that and every performance, let us hope that it will not be long until David Tennant returns to the stage. He’s often said that there is where he thinks is his home and you can see how much he enjoys it.

Recording of David Tennant's Much Ado About Nothing

David Tennant and Catherine Tate's sell out production of Much Ado About Nothing was recorded this week for release by Digital Theatre.

There were small static high definition cameras on either side of the stage for most performances of this week so it will be intereting to see how they edit it as David missed the performances on Monday and Tuesday due to having lost his voice. The production also uses three different actors for the character Boy.

David Tennant returns to Much Ado About Nothing

Tonight David Tennant returned to his role of Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing at the Wyndham Theatre in London.

This was the 108th performance of this 112-show run and it was David's 106th as he missed Monday and Tuesday evenings this week due to having lost his voice.

Although he did not sign autographs afterwards at the Stage Door, fans have reported that his voice held up okay during the play although there were a couple of comments posted that it wasn't quite as strong as normal in places but that may have been because people were expecting or especially listening for that.

(Since we tweeted the news that he was performing at 7.30pm tonight, it has already been retweeted 38 times!)

Unfortunately again tonight Catherine Tate went on stage before the start of Much Ado About Nothing at the Wyndham Theatre in London to say they David Tennant would be unable to perform due to his voice.

We received an email from someone at the theatre to say that David was there at about 5.30pm but someone tweeted at about 6.30pm that they had seen him walking away from the Wyndham.

Today was also the day which David Tennant and other cast members were scheduled to attend a press screening and interview session for Fright Night but obviously David had to pull out of that too.

David is scheduled to appear on the Fearne Cotton Show on BBC Radio One tomorrow sometime between 10am and 12.45pm. The radio station is currently saying that he is still expected to be one of the guests but it is most likely that we will not know for sure until 10am.

David Tennant NOT appearing on BBC Breakast today

It has just been announced on BBC Breakfast that David Tennant will not be appearing on their programme this morning as expected due to him "being ill."

Only about five minutes previously they announced that he would be appearing (and in fact the BBC Breakfast Twitter feed tweeted that news to us) but they obviously had not heard that he had a problem with his voice.

It has been widely reported on the Internet that Catherine said David had been told to rest his voice for 24 hours but that is NOT what she said on stage.

David Tennant unable to perform tonight's performance of Much Ado About Nothing

Just past 7.30pm tonight Catherine Tate walked onto the front of the stage (in front of the curtain) at the Wyndham Theatre in London to announce that David Tennant would not be playing the performance.

There were no signs in the theatre beforehand (as there had been when David was unable to play his first performance of Hamlet in 2008) and there was no chance of being given a refund.

Catherine's exact words were "Ladies and gentlemen, as I'm sure you are aware, this is not the usual start to the show. I regret to inform you that David can not do tonight's performance." The audience then groaned so Catherine continued "I know! He was told 2 hours ago by a voice specialist he must not perform tonight. He has no voice."

Catherine then said about how sorry David was about it and explained that the part of Benedick would be taken by Alex Beckett so Leo Staar would play Borachio and Joshua Berg would play the Messenger as well as his own roles. Catherine also joked that this was how Catherine Zeta-Jones had got her first break and was pleased that the audience had taken the news as well as they had.

As well as some changes in the delivery of the lines, the cast dropped the line about Benedick having lost his beard as Alex has a full beard. He also wore a different outfit in the disco scene and had a Tina Turner style wig instead of Miss Piggy.

During the interval most people were saying that they were enjoying the play but were disappointed that David Tennant was not performing. In the bar a couple of people were complaining that no refunds had been offered especially since, unlike the RSC, this was advertised as David Tennant and Catherine Tate's play and not an ensemble production.

This was the 106th performance of the play and the run ends on Saturday (3rd).

From Sunday 18th to Saturday 24th September BBC Radio Four will transmit an eight hour dramatisation of the book Life and Fate by the Russian writer Vasily Grossman. This drama will star Kenneth Branagh and will take over every drama strand on BBC Radio Four during the week except for The Archers slots.

Yesterday BBC Radio Promo Produceer MoyMcGowan tweeted "Making trails for an epic @BBCRadio4 drama production. Kenneth Branagh and David Tennant are outstanding #LifeAndFate" which is the first indication that it will involve David Tennant as part of the massive cast.

Life and Fate is described as "a powerful work which is set during the Battle of Stalingrad and charts the fate of both a nation and a family in the turmoil of war. It was completed in 1960 but its comparison of Stalinism with Nazism was considered so dangerous by Soviet authorities that the manuscript was placed under arrest by the KGB and Grossman was informed his book would not be published for at least 200 years.

Having been a household name as one of Russia's most distinguished war correspondents, Grossman died aged 58 - the arrest of his book hastening the end of his life. He would never know the fate of his masterpiece, smuggled out of the Soviet Union on microfilm, to freedom and eventual publication in the West. Today it is increasingly hailed as the most important Russian novel of the 20th Century."

The Daily Mirror have today confirmed that David Tennant, David Morrissey, Jane Horrocks and Billie Piper will appear in a BBC drama which will air in early 2012.

The article in the Daily Mirror by Mark Jefferies says that head of BBC drama, Ben Stephenson, will officially announce it at the Edinburgh TV Festival this weekend.

The Daily Mirror says that the five part drama (written by Dominic Savage) will be called Love Life and will focus on five affairs in one town.

David Tennant recently spoke in an interview about doing something new and not tried before and the Daily Mirror explained that "It is a first for BBC1 with 'improvised' scenes."

Ashley Walters will appear in the series. It is also expected that Gemma Chan may also appear. Gemma first indicated on Monday that David Tennant was appearing in this drama when she posted it to her official website. However she called it True Love and any mention of it has now been removed from the site.

Lots of fans have tweeted that they are delighted that David Tennant and Billie Piper will be appearing together again. However, on a more cautionary note, the drama is reported to be a series of five different stories so it MAY be that they do not appear in the same episode.

Box office results for David Tennant's movie Fright Night

David Tennant's latest movie Fright Night opened in the US on Friday (19th).

Reports of how it has done so far varies from website to website but most seem to agree that after the first day (including screenings at midnight on Thursday) it appears to be fifth in the box office takings.

Reports on the total it took on the first day varies from $2.7m to $3.5m with an extrapolated prediction of $8.5m for the opening weekend.

That sounds like a lot of money but it isn't great by Hollywood standards (although it isn't a flop either).

However, in the US, schools go back earlier than in the UK so this wasn't the best weekend to release a movie as generally cinemas are quieter this weekend. (Or possibly that is why DreamWorks chose this weekend???) There were also two other 3D movies which opened this weekend and the remake Planet Of The Apes which opened in July is still doing very well.

David indicated during the Chris Evans Show on Friday that there was a clause in his contract regarding a possible sequel the Fright Night.

However, regardless of how Fright Night does at the box office, almost without exception both critics and fans, and even fans of the original Fright Night, have raised David Tennant's portrayal of Peter Vincent.

Fright Night opens in the UK on Friday 2nd September.

David Tennant provides the voice-over for a documentary about singer songwriter Gerry Rafferty which will be screened on BBC Two Scotland on Monday 29th August at 9pm. The programme is called Gerry Rafferty - Right Down The Line.

David recorded the narration for this hour long programme on Monday 11th July in London and the press release describes it as:

Episode 3 of The T.A. And The Taliban

Tonight at 9pm episode 3 of the David Tennant narrated The T.A. And The Taliban has its premiere transmission on Watch. It is repeated an hour later on Watch + 1, plus there are repeats on both Saturday and Tuesday evenings.

The description for this episode is:

"Friends Shaun and Ruairidh are swapping their lives in a sleepy Scottish towns for life on the frontline in Afghanistan. Ruairidh thinks it’s time to leave the family hotel business and become a man, whilst adrenaline junkie Shaun sees the army as a way to make something out of his life. Will 6 months in Afghanistan be the making or breaking of them?"

David Tennant will be on the Chris Evans Show on BBC Radio Two on Friday 19th August sometime between 6.30am & 9.30am.

David will most likely be on the show after 8am. This is to promote his new movie Fright Night.

An interrupted performance of David Tennant's Much Ado About Nothing

One of the joys(?) of live theatre is that anything can go wrong!

Over the past 85 performances of Much Ado About Nothing there have been reports of mishaps at various performances which always happens with live theatre. In fact I've seen several myself. Without giving any spoilers away for people who have not seen the play yet, mishaps have included things like actors forgetting lines, glasses being knocked over, David Tennant sliding on something on stage and Catherine having problems with her headgear (near the beginning of the run).

Last night (Monday 8th) there was a bigger mishap as all the lights went out during one of the early scenes! It was as Catherine Tate as Beatrice was talking about Don John and Benedick so there was a moments silence before she joked "Was it something I said?"

Some stage hands then walked on stage with torches to help the actors off stage before the stage manager walked on (within 30 seconds) and said that there had been an electrical spike so they had to reset the computer lighting board.

They managed to bring up the house lights and then lowered the safely curtain as parts of the lighting control was behind the circular part of the stage.

After about five minutes they resumed the play by starting that scene again. However the lights flickered as David was doing one of his soliloquies so he made a joke of it.

There were also some understudies playing again last night. (They also played the performance on Friday and both on Saturday.) Normally actors will drag themselves on stage regardless of how they feel but Adam James who played the prince Don Pedro was unable to perform so consequently Clive Hayward who normally played member of the watch Hugh Oatcake and Friar Francis played Don Pedro.

This meant that Nicholas Lumley played Friar Francis as well as his usual role of George Seacoal and Leo Staar played Hugh Oatcake as well as his normal roles. The understudies all performed really well and, if you hadn't seen the original cast, you may not have realised that they were understudies.

Last night David and Catherine did not sign after the performance although apparently this was decided before the electrical problems.

Last night the play finished about 10 minutes later at 10.35pm.

DVDs of David Tennant's United and LA Without A Map are released today

As we posted back in June, today DVDs of David Tennant's two dramas United and LA Without A Map are released today.

United
David filmed this during December 2010 and it was shown on BBC2 on Easter Sunday to massive acclaim by both critics and fans.

The description is "United is based on the true story of Manchester United's legendary "Busby Babes", the youngest side ever to win the Football League and the 1958 Munich Air Crash that claimed eight of the their number. The film draws on first-hand interviews with the survivors and their families to tell the inspirational story of a team and community overcoming terrible tragedy."

As well as the 90 minute deama, the DVD includes some deleted scenes and a commentary by David Tennant, James Strong and writer Chris Chibnall.

LA Without A Map
David filmed this movie back in 1998 and until now the only way to watch it was to buy a foreign language version and turn off the subtitles but now a UK version will be available.

The description is "Richard (David Tennant) has his life turned upside down when he meets Barbara (Vinessa Shaw), a beautiful aspiring actress on her way to Los Angeles. Leaving his inherited undertaker's business and dull life behind, he crosses the Atlantic in pursuit of love and adventure. Accidentally he finds himself a career as a screenwriter. Thrown in at the deep end he discovers that life in Southern California is far from straightforward. Stylish, funny, and fast -paced, with a screenplay adapted from Richard Rayner's autobiographical cult hit novel Los Angeles Without a Map, this is a hilarious fish-out-of-water love story with some surprising guest stars."
