Dave's emotions are in turmoil after his kiss with Sarah, as Mick Ford's touching yet humorous drama series about finding love after heartbreak continues.

Confused, Dave tries to avoid Sarah when he drops youngest daughter Evie off at school, but at the same time he's also desperate to see her again. Eventually they're forced to meet at Evie's parents' evening. After a heart to heart, they agree that the kiss was an understandable response to their emotions over Rita, and decide to continue as normal.

In an attempt to be supportive, Dave vows to track down Lucy's real dad but information is scant. He knows Rita fell pregnant at university so starts reading her diaries looking for clues. With a little help from Sarah, he tracks down a man called Stuart who claims to know Rita from her university days.

Later, Dave meets up with Stuart and is shocked when Stuart reveals he knew all along he had a child with Rita and she'd secretly kept in touch with him over the years, sending him pictures of Lucy. Dave is devastated by Rita's deceit and begins to question the memory of the woman he loved.

Meanwhile, Dave's children are struggling in their own unique ways. Tanya, never the greatest employee, messes up an important set of photos and tries to hide them from her father, afraid he'll be disappointed in her; and Ewan, desperate for attention, deliberately harms himself but pretends it's a football accident.

In need of a quiet evening, Dave arranges for all the kids to stay elsewhere that night, inviting Sarah over for some company.

But before Sarah arrives, he is confronted by ex-wife Michelle who brings home a poorly Evie, storming out after giving Dave a piece of her mind.

Later, with Evie sound asleep, Dave and Sarah's feelings get the better of them and before they know it, they're in bed. But Evie wakes up and comes to the bedroom door. Sarah and Dave are horrified, uncertain of what Evie saw and how she'll react...

When will David Tennant's drama Single Father be screened?

According to a tweet by @BlogtorWho Single Father will be screened starting sometime during the week Saturday 9th to Friday 15th October. (Previously only October had been announced.) If the BBC do not state the exact day and time before, it will be announced next Thursday at the latest.
The drama consists of four episodes which are expected to be screened over consecutive weeks.

Currently there are no announced plans to screen it in the US. This is most likely to be because they are waiting to see how well it is received in the UK first.

About a month ago Masterpiece Contemporary (PBS) were asked by a fan if they were considering it and they made a generic response that they were (as they would for any BBC drama which they were asked about, especially one starring their host). Another alternative is that it could be screened on BBC America.
The Single Father section of DavidTennantOnTwitter.com has the most comprehensive reports about the drama.

Press Kit about David Tennant's drama Single Father

The BBC Press Office have issued an online Press Kit about David Tennant's forthcoming drama Single Father which includes an interview with David.

Click here for the Introduction page, here for biographies of the characters, here for the interview with David Tennant, here for an interview with Suranne Jones and here for the Cast and Crew. Be warned that some of the pages (including David's interview) contains SPOILERS.

During David's interview he is asked what attracted him to the drama and his reply was: "First, and foremost, the script. It's just one of those scripts that arrived fully formed. The way it talks about family life and the way that Mick [Ford] draws the characters of the kids is just so beautifully done.
It's funny, true and clever. I've been fortunate to have experienced that a couple of times before but really it's so rare. When those gems arrive you just have to say 'yes' straightaway.
"

One quote from Suranne Jones about working with David is "He's professional, on the ball all the time, brilliant on every take, never moans – he's just a true professional."

BAFTA screening of David Tennant's drama Single Father

Last night at BAFTA in London they held the screening of the first episode of David Tennant’s forthcoming drama Single Father followed by a Q&A. The evening was introduced by Ben Stephenson who is the Controller of BBC Drama and the panel was hosted by James Rampton from The Independent. The panel consisted of Suranne Jones (who plays ), Nichola Shindler from Red Productios, director Sam Miller and writer Mick Fold.

There are two detailed reports of the screening by Canadian-Turtle and Foxyhic.

Comments posted in various places online include:

David Tennant puts in stellar first post Doctor Who performance in Single Father.

Single Father was SO GOOD. Wow. And David Tennant is seriously one of the most amazing emotional actors out there.

OMG "Single Father" is gorgeous and funny and heartbreaking ... and so is David Tennant

Great work by all the cast.

The majority of the scenes in Single Father were shot in sequence. The director kept the camera rolling often to film the natural reaction of the child actors.

At the Single Father Q&A all the panel remarked on David Tennant's acting, praising his "honesty and truthfulness", plus the intelligence he brought to the role.

Single Father is a great piece of drama. As great dramas, it's what you expect & not what you expect at all.

David Tennant's emotionally charged performance in Single Father is quite something. Totally forgot he was once Doctor Who.

It's amazing, feel emotionally drained after only one episode!

Emotionally gripping, brilliantly acted. Airs soon. Don't miss!

Single Father will be broadcast on four consecutive weeks starting sometime in October.

David Tennant mentioned in today's Sunday Express

David Tennant is mentioned a few times in an article in the Sunday Express by their Theatre Critic Mark Shenton.

It's an article titled To Be Or Not To Be Hamlet and talks about the plethora of Hamlet productions in recent years. John Simm opens this week at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, Rory Kinnear opens at the National Theatre in London later this year and Michael Sheen will play the role at the Young Vic Theatre in London in 2011.

Mark Shenton looks back over other actors he has seen in the role. Click here to read the online version of the article but the print version also includes a photo of David Tennant which takes up a third of the page and Mark writes about his three favourite Hamlets which are Simon Russell Beale, Ben Whishaw and David Tennant. About David he says "David Tennant brought a lean, edgy anxiety to the role for the RSC that was spellbinding."

One part of the online edition includes the following about David:
"Even David Tennant, used to by then to the trappings and attentions of stardom that Doctor Who had brought him, spoke of the pressures that he faced doing it as being “tougher than I anticipated”.

It felt like a bit of a mountain, as I knew it would and expected it to, but the stress levels on that were slightly cranked up by the amount of attention it got which I wasn’t really expecting.” The play itself always brings its own challenges: “Of course I was intimidated, how could you not be? The expectations that come with it are vast.”

The rewards can also be vast and the reviews decisive. Tennant, for instance, was acclaimed by the critics at Stratford-upon-Avon and when he returned to the production in London at the end of its run one of my colleagues wrote that this was “without doubt one of the finest productions of Hamlet I have ever seen, led by an actor of extraordinary courage and charisma who has made a persuasive claim to true greatness”.

Now John Simm, Rory Kinnear and Michael Sheen have a new standard to try to meet, never mind those being set by each other."

David Tennant mentioned twice in The Sunday Times today.

David Tennant receives two mentions in The Sunday Times today.

The first mention is that David Tennant's forthcoming Single Father is included in the Sunday Times Top 100 Art Events of the Autumn. The four part drama Single Father will be broadcast on BBC in October.

The second mention is due to fundraising for the Royal Shakespeare Company in the Blog section of the Sunday Times.

The full text of this mention is:
"
Jolly nice of David Tennant's fans to raise more than £5,000 for a seat to be named after him at the new Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. Well, new in the sense that it has been rebuilt for £112m. It has a "soft opening" in late November, and then King Lear takes to its stage early next year.

Tennant, who played Hamlet for the RSC in 2008, has himself been involved in raising money for seats. I gather just over £1m has come in, with several donations from actors, including David Warner. Meanwhile, Patrick Stewart, very much an RSC regular, has been seeking money for bricks.

Donations from private companies and the general public have raised about £35m towards the final goal. Only the Arts Council, with its £53m award, has come up with more. There have also been individual donations from 55 countries - not just the usual suspects, such as America and Germany, but money from Albania, Yemen and Tajikistan, where they've obviously been brushing up on their Shakespeare.
"
