Experimenting in a new method of scoring at the David Tennant Quizzes

As regular quizzers will know, during the quizzes on David Tennant On Twitter the winners are the first person who Tweets the answer correctly and the tenth person who does so.

The reason we started including the tenth person as a winner too was so that people with slower connections would also stand a chance of winner.

However there have been allegations that some people with faster connections have deliberately not tweeted until the tenth position so that they can win (shock! horror!).

So....for this next Quiz (Friday 25th June at 8.30pm), our 60th David Tennant Quiz, we are trying a new way of scoring AS AN EXPERIMENT ONLY.

The way it will work is that the first person who gets the answer correctly will get 10 points, the second person will get 9 points and so on until the tenth person who gets a question correctly will score one point.

I will keep a spreadsheet and the winner will be announced at the end as well as a link to the spreadsheet so that you can see how many points you scored through the quiz.

Please feel free to give feedback AFTER the quiz (not during please!).

Whether we will continue to use this method or not depends on the feedback received, how much work will be involved for me and whether it slows up the quiz too much.

Feedback can be left either though Twitter or by email to DavidTennantOnTwitter@gmail.com.

However the one rule is please do NOT delete your Tweets during the quiz or it will be difficult for me to keep track. If you answer and then believe that you have answered incorrectly, please just tweet again with the correct answer.

Details about the winners to date are posted here and upcoming quiz topics here.

And, above all else, remember that these quizzes are just for fun!

British hunt for extras for David Tennant's movie Decoy Bride

Earlier it was posted about the opportunity to appear as an extra in David Tennant's forthcoming movie Fright Night if you could get to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and now a casting agency is looking for extras for his movie Decoy Bride but you only have to travel to the Isle Of Man for this filming.

We also need a male in his 30s with brown hair, 6ft & extremely slim. We are also looking for musicians who can play the bodhran or fiddle, and an organist. Ideally they would be male and 40s- plus."

Auditions are tomorrow at the Upper Hall of Promenade Methodist Church in Loch Promenade, Douglas, from 5.30pm until 8pm but please note that obviously David Tennant won't be at the casting sessions!

David Tennant starting work on Decoy Bride

It is believed that a week of rehearsals start on David Tennant's new movie Decoy Bride today in London.

This is expected to be followed by filming starting next Sunday or Monday on The Isle Of Man and continuing in Scotland from around 12th July until 31st July. However David may not be required for all this time.

Kelly MacDonald and Alice Eve also star in the movie which will be directed by Sheree Folkson.

The description of the movie is: "The Decoy Bride tells the story of a superstar actress, Lara (Eve), who just wants to marry her cute British boyfriend James (Tennant), and believes the sleepy Scottish Island of Hegg is the one place the world’s press won’t find them. But when an ingenious paparazzo tracks them down, the diva must find a decoy bride and thinks local girl Katie (MacDonald) will be an ideal replacement. But when Katie meets James, sparks fly."

It has been reported (but not confirmed) that the movie is likely to be released around May 2011.

David is known to have flown to the US last Wednesday but, as with most actors, he does not have an official website but relies on announcements from the production companies he works onwith, the reason for his visit has so far only been guessed at by fans.

David Tennant entered in first round of voting for Emmys

David Tennant is listed as a nomination in the first round of voting for the Emmys (the US television production awards, which are considered the television equivalent to the Academy Awards). However this is purely the first round of voting and all nominees are put forward for this round by their various television production companies so virtually any actor in any role during the eligibility period could have been nominated.

David Tennant has been nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actor In A Mini-Series Or A Movie category and has been nominated twice - for the role of Arthur Eddington in Einstein and Eddington and for the title role of Hamlet.

Currently there are 30 actors nominated in this category and David faces some stiff opposition as he is up against, among others, Ian McKellen, Al Pacino, Chiwetel Ejiofor and also Andy Serkis for Einstein and Eddington. All members can vote for up to five actors in the category. Click here to see the list of all the nominees.

All productions screened in the US during the eligibility period (1st June 2009 to 31st May 2010) are able to submit nominees.

The deadline for returning votes is 21st June and the final round of nominees will be announced live the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre on 8th July.

David Tennant mentioned at BAFTA / BFI discussion last night

Last night at the British Film Institute on the Southbank in London there was a discussion in association with BAFTA called "Second Coming Or Looming Apocalypse? The Writer In Modern TV" with writers, producers and commissioners of BBC television drama.

It was hosted by journalist and Front Row broadcaster Mark Lawson and included writers Tony Marchant (Recovery) and Donna Franceschild (Takin' Over the Asylum'), BBC Controller, Drama Commissioning Ben Stephenson (who commissioned Single Father) and Nicola Shindler (Executive Producer of Red Production Company who made Single Father and Casanova).

During the discussion they said that they days of drama being made just because of a named star who can not act were over and that there are probably only three actors now who can get a drama commissioned on the basis of their name alone and David Tennant was the only one that they named.

Nicola Shindler and Ben Stephenson said that they had the basis of the script of Single Father for about five years and that it was only once they got David Tennant on board that the series was commissioned. They said that it is a strong character-driven drama so it needed an actor of a certain stature and ability to give it "emotional scale".

Tony Marchant added that nowadays usually drama had to have an extra link into it. His example was that it was rare that a drama was written just about a disabled child but that it would be more likely to be made if the child's disabled life was examined in the context of a murder investigation for example.

Ben Stephenson later said that the original plan was for Single Father to be a series but will be screened as a four part serial and stressed that it was a drama with an equally strong beginning, middle and conclusion.

Single Father is currently in post-production and will be screened in the Autumn on BBC.

Press round-up about David Tennant in Fright Night

The news that David Tennant will be playing Peter Vincent in the DreamWorks remake of Fright Night was announced too late to make the print editions of yesterday's British newspapers, however a plethora of online websites reported it yesterday.

DigitalSpy, Entertainment Weekly and The Washington Post.

Most articles carried the same details (posted on DavidTennantOnTwitter yesterday), however Josh Taylor writing in CinemaBlend gave his opinion of the casting as well as the facts. His opening paragraph read:

"
David Tennant should be in movies. Good movies. In a perfect world his incredible performances in three seasons of Doctor Who would earn him a mantle full of Emmys and the lead in a Hollywood blockbuster of his choice. Instead he’ll play second banana to McLovin in the remake of Fright Night. "
